This project, executed in collaboration with Jessica Caughorn, revolves around the concept of diverse people supporting each other out of simple kindness and humanity, despite the sometimes negative forces of circumstance. It aims is to shine a light on the fact that the strength of diversity cannot be tapped unless we can pick up, lean against and raise up one another.
Grit and Grime
Growing up, I was fortunate enough to have had many different cultures contribute to my
childhood. I was fascinated by how people and their lifestyles can vary from country to
country. The older generations are always the strongest carriers of tradition. Set strongly
in their ways, they are the living and breathing essence of our cultures. They are the people
that raise us, teach us and shape us into who we are.
When I came to Hong Kong, I immediately noticed the resilience and grit of the older
generation. Apart from this rough determinations I also noticed how these people tapped
into their inner children and seemed to enjoy the simple things in life. After living here for a
few months I learned about how with Hong Kong’s aging population, more and more
people are having to work past the age of retirement in order to make a living. This
revelation added an aspect of respect and admiration for these hardworking and jovial
people of Hong Kong.
Colours signal pathways
This project is about the all about seeing the deeper underlying messages certain moments in time give us. It is about being open to possibilities. It's about slowing down, zooming out and thinking "Why and how am I here and what is this moment teaching me?" The colours represent the magic of the moment and realization you may come to when you look deeper into it.
